Chaos

I find it interesting to think that the world could have possibly been ordered by God as it is depicted in the readings from "Primal Myths". I have heard my own stories and my own versions of the creation story and I have even compared the two different readings from Genesis in a previous class as the reading also does. However, I find it crazy to think of all of the different stories of creation and that only one can be the true story of why we are here and better yet, how.

I never really pictured that the element of chaos could play such a role in life until entering this course and the more that I read about it, the more and more I am becoming slightly astounded by it. My idea of chaos is nothing more then a crazy situation with a great deal of confusion or an outbreak in public of some sort. However, after the reading on pages 169-171, I am beginning to realize that chaos is so much more then that. Chaos in a sense played a large role in the initial creation of the world but yet to me, chaos is what will tear the world apart....

I think that the Mayans knew what they were talking about when they said that the world is coming to an end. This is not because we are dead and gone, but because I look at the way the world lives now and the way we view right and wrong and the consistent tragedies that sweep over our nation and I realize that the world is slowly collapsing on itself and sadly all there is to do is watch. Chaos is what brought this world together and I think chaos is going to be what takes us out.

  1. One observation: you write that "only one can be the true story" of creation. Doesn't that assume that human beings have access to the "true story"? It might be that we will never know the true story (hence, the need to devise stories that help us come to terms with what we don't know for certain).

Chaos is, indeed, more than just confusion, as you point out. But then you end on a negative note that is so opposed to the way you end the next post. Hmmmm . . .

  2. I guess it is true that we will never have access to the true story no matter how much we would like too. However, I do think that everyone has one story that they put beyond the others so I think it would be interesting to see two strong believers of each of their stories clash with each other on which story makes more sense to be the truth.

The reason I end this post on a negative note in comparison to the other is because I don't really see any other way to talk about chaos other then in a negative way. I may have caused confusion with the change in tones but I'm just trying to look at the world we live in, in both positive and negative points of view because one who is not willing to look at each standpoint can't enjoy the arguments that can be made from each perspective.
