Bucky Covington - A Different World

My dad has always liked to refer to this song when we talk about how much the world has changed since he was a kid to the point where we are now, and he's damn right. A lot sure has changed....

  1. Same sort of challenge I gave you in the previous (well, more recent) post: what does categories is he working with to make this message make sense? Think in terms of social categories but also categories relating to time and history.

He's absolutely right about life being very different just a few decades ago. There's lots of research out there about the ways the media creates a sense of fear in parents, who won't even allow their children to walk alone on the bus stop on the corner. This is all part of the ways we can't judge real danger (it is, after all, more dangerous statistically to be in a moving motor vehicle than walking down a sidewalk).

I have to take issue, though, with his apparent support of hitting children when they do something wrong . . .
